Allison's Notes:
Well, here we are at camp. I'm in Rochester, New York for the first
time. This trip has been a lot of firsts. My first trip to New York, my
first red-eye airplane flight, my second flight across the country, and
by myself, my first college overnight stay, my first deaf camp, there are
a lot I can think of but I will spare you the details. I left Phoenix from
Sky Harbor International Airport at 11 p.m. Arizona time Friday Night.
Saturday morning, I landed in Pittsburgh at 3 a.m. Arizona time. Then I
finally arrived in Rochester at 9:15 New York Time. Boy was I happy to
get off the plane and be at R.I.T.
One of my first impressions upon arriving in New York was "Green!" Everything
was sooooo green. I have not seen that much green in one place at one time.
Here in Arizona *which is a beautiful state, but after living here for almost
15 years, it gets kind of old fast*, it's like you see "brown, brown, brown,
tan, brown, brown, red, brown, brown, green, yellow, brown, brown, . .
. " You get the idea. Here in New York it was like "WHOA! Green, green,
light green, green, green ,dark green, green green" I thought it was really
pretty and a refreshing change from what I'm used to in the desert.
I arrived at Mark Ellingson Hall around 10 a.m. New York time.
The first person I met from EYF was Karey, the residence hall director.
She took me over to LBJ and the EYF headquarters where I got to meet the
other people from the program. I met Seth and Brandon, who had just
arrived a few minutes after I did. We had lunch with the staff, and
helped them get set up for registration, which was coming up pretty soon.
As soon as I got registered, I went to my dorm room ASAP because I was
TIRED. Spent the afternoon unpacking and making the dorm room seem
like home. Stefrose took me up to the 6th floor, which was the floor
I was staying on, in room 6004 (which was all the way in the back,
and very quiet! YES!)
I decided to take a nap, so I fell asleep and slept for 3 hours.
I had been up for 24 hours straight before I finally got to sleep.
My roommate, Susan, moved in while I was asleep. I was kind of disappointed
because I wanted to say Hey! It's nice to meet you! I'm Allison,
etc, etc. Oh well.
Anyways, we got to see the campus that day and meet the other people
who were there at the program. We played games that night, some of
which were REALLY hard. The orange under the neck game was tough.
Our line kept laughing because some of us were really ticklish! (I
was!)
Anyways, I think that's about it for Day 1. Signing off here.
